National Outreach: Disaster Response to help those who have experienced natural disasters; providing lodging and meals at our church for mission groups needing a place to stay as they travel, (regularly for groups on their way to and from Hurricane Katrina clean-up and re-building); providing lodging and meals for those who have been displaced during times of disaster; response to other needs as they arise. We are currently planning a mission trip in the U.S. for the summer which will be open to individuals and families. Stay tuned for details!
World Outreach: HUMC has played a big role in mission trips to Russia, helping with an orphanage and helping build a church in Latnaya, Russia; and to Honduras to build clean water as well as providing for other needs. We support Stop Hunger Now, an organization dedicated to ending hunger in our lifetime (we plan to purchase and pack 20,000 meals in the upcoming weeks to be sent to Haiti); Nothing but Nets to prevent malaria, a leading cause of death in children in Africa; Samaritans Purse, including providing shoeboxes for needy children world-wide at Christmas; the Heiffer Project, and the Advance, the United Methodist support of numerous world-wide projects that help those in need; and we are supporting Haiti through generous donations and providing health kits. During Lent, we are planning to provide “rice bowl” banks for families to collect change which will be given to help provide for needs and save lives of children in orphanages around the world.
We would love to hear from you and help you plug into some of our ways of serving others and therefore serving God!
